- K M Shah Dental College and Hospital, Sumandeep Vidyapeeth has an illustrious legacy of over two and a half decades. The Department of Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge has been in the forefront of teaching, learning, research, innovation and social responsibility leading to an overall academic prosthodontic training of repute and acclaimed standards. The Department of Prosthodontics is well equipped with high quality infrastructure that caters to the clinical needs of treatment, laboratory training and didactic classes for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate training. The department faculty are well trained in basic and advanced teaching learning methods and research methodology that has helped equip undergraduate and postgraduate students to meet the goal of competent management of patients with prosthodontics need, arrive at a diagnosis and plan the sequence of treatment.
- The department guides students through their phases of pre-clinical and clinical training offers courses in Prosthodontics BDS program, MDS Program, Value added certificate course on Minimally invasive Fixed Prosthodontics and a Fellowship in Dental Sleep Medicine and Esthetic Smile designing. An efficient faculty ensures sufficient attention, participation and supervision of the students. During the pre-clinical phase, students are taught to manipulate various dental materials, fabricate complete dentures, design cast partial dentures and perform tooth preparations. The undergraduate students also learn by assisting faculty members and postgraduates during clinical procedures. The clinical phase includes training the students to treat patients requiring complete or partial removable and fixed prosthesis including implant supported prosthesis. The Department provides standard clinical care for patients requiring comprehensive and advanced phases of prosthodontic treatment like esthetic smile designing, full-mouth, rehabilitation, occlusal rehabilitation, and implant-supported prosthesis and extraoral/intraoral maxillofacial prosthesis.
- Additionally, students are also involved in the outreach activities of the department. Days of social responsibility like International day for the elderly, Prosthodontists day, International Crafts Day and Human Rights day have been celebrated with lot of pomp and grandeur. One of the Key project is “Dant Swavlamban” an Outreach program that provides onsite treatment of Geriatric patients with free dentures.
- Innovation has always been the central pivot around which the department spins out the academic and research weave. The innovative fervour of the faculty can be seen in rich contributions to Patents, Design Patents and copyrights. The innovative methods of Flipped classrooms, reflective discussions, Evidence based Prosthodontic protocols, OSCE OSPE, Early Clinical Exposure have been adopted by the Department to enhance teaching learning and assessment experience.
- The Department has a large number of Awards and recognitions of Students and faculties at various national and state level conferences, conventions and Associations.
- Encompassing Pediatrics to Geriatrics, the department truly encompasses through generations and has emerged as a department of excellence by imparting necessary knowledge and skills in Prosthodontics and allied sciences through quality faculty, infrastructure, evidence based practice in order to prepare globally competent students with good values, ethical research aptitude and socially responsible citizens who contribute to nation building.
